Watching and listening

Alert level 3 has given us the opportunity to make small movements amongst the community, these being the ability to order takeaways from local food joints, some of us returning to work and necessary students returning to school.

Although level 3 means we’re able to take a break from cooking, it is still important to ‘stay home’ so that we can restrict community transmission of COVID-19. We thought we would help you out and provide some entertainment for the coming week by compiling a list of the best movies, TV shows and podcasts to stream over your fibre connection.

  • Ozark Season Three – Available on Netflix

It may be an obvious one and we could probably guess that many of you may have already watched it. However, Ozark has released it third season and it is just as gripping as the previous two seasons with a great plot twist right at the end.

For those of you who haven’t yet started the series, it follows Marty Byrde a financial advisor and his family as he drags them from Chicago to the Missouri Ozarks, where he must launder money to appease a drug lord. But we won’t give away too much if you want to see what it’s all about you can watch the trailer here.

  • The Office – Available on Lightbox

The Office is an American comedy show featuring Steve Carell that showcases a group of hilarious office workers and the misfortunes they go through. With 201 episodes in total it’s definitely a binge-worthy option that will take you a good chunk of time to get through.

  • Marriage Story – Available on Netflix

An honest film that explores divorce and the implications it has on the people involved. Marriage Story, stars Scarlett Johansson opposite Adam Driver, two creatives who have fallen out of love and are battling through a divorce they didn’t know would be so costly and challenging with the help of their reasonably entertaining lawyers. If you’re up for a film about life then this ones for you!

  • The Irishman – Available on Netflix

The three-and-a-half-hour-long film, features lead Robert De Niro as truck driver Frank Sheeran who get involved with the Bufalino crime family as a hitman. The film looks back on the secrets Sheeran kept as a loyal member of the family. Watch the trailer here.

  • Joe Rogan – The Joe Rogan Experience – Podcast

Hosted by Comedian Joe Rogan the podcast explores all topics with each episode including a different special guest, ranging from athletes to researchers including the likes of Elon Musk and Lance Armstrong.   • Grounded with Louis Theroux – Podcast

Louis Theroux has used the lockdown period to get in touch with his bucket list of high-profile individuals from all walk of life to discuss “the controversial and the mysterious” with them, as well their careers and wellbeing. You can listen to the podcast here.

New Zealanders are currently loving this one, researcher and author Brene Brown she explores the concepts, experiences, stories and emotions that make us human.
