How to: Chromecast, a step-by-step guide

Chromecast is a streaming media adaptor produced by Google, that plugs into your TV’s HDMI port. This is then connected to your smart phone, tablet or laptop enabling you to transfer video content from YouTube, Netflix and other platforms from your device to a larger screen.

There’s a lot of talk around online streaming at the minute – whether it’s to watch your favourite movies, TV shows or even sports – a popular way of doing so is by Chrome casting.

Chromecast is free after the initial purchase of an adapter which can be bought from any electronic retailer for around $65 NZD. You can also go in the draw to win one on our Facebook Page. Get in quick, the competition closes 21st June!

Step 1: Plug in your Chromecast adaptor

Plug the Chromecast device into your TVs HDMI port, then connect the USB power cable to your Chromecast.

Step 2: Connect your Chromecast device to Wi-Fi

Connect your Chromecast adaptor to the same Wi-Fi connection that your mobile or tablet is connected to.

Step 3: Download the Google Home App

Download the Google Home App from your devices App Store. This application is used to help set up and control your Chromecast. Make sure you have created a Google account for this step.

Step 4: Set up Chromecast

Step 5: Check codes match

A unique code will appear on both your TV and your device. If they match, then select Yes.
