Video games and what you perhaps didn't know...

People worldwide are engaging in video games on an entirely different level. Instead of simply partaking in the games they are participating by watching the games the same way you would watch a Rugby game.

Video games such as Fortnite, Minecraft and Grand Theft Auto, can be watched on platforms like YouTube or video game streaming site Twitch.  Not only are millions of kids and adults tuning into this, the most well-known streamers are even making money from it, in some cases thousands and even millions of dollars.

One example is 28-year-old Tyler “Ninja” Blevins who earns US$500,000 a month just from streaming himself playing Fortnite for 12 hours a day from his home set-up. Imagine being paid that much money to play games from the comfort of your own home?

Rumor also has it that e-sports could soon be an official sport at the Olympic Games. Surprisingly enough it is also believed that the largest growing age group of people purchasing video games are 40 years and older however, this could reflect purchases that are being made on a child’s behalf.

The top five most popular video games right now are:

  • Minecraft
  • Fortnite
  • Grand Theft Auto V
  • Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six Seige
  • Super Smash Bros: Ultimate

Watching and playing video games online is surprisingly interactive as you’re communicating with other gamers upon the platform. As a parent we often try to distance our kids from many things due to the belief it’s not beneficial in some way, instead of fighting a losing battle perhaps challenge them to a game or two and turn it into fun for the whole family.

If you do have someone in your household who is a gamer/streamer then they will require a Wi-Fi connection that can provide the speeds needed so they don’t have to put up with any frustrating interruptions such as lagging, fuzzy pictures and dropouts. Luckily for you and us, fibre provides the fast speeds you need to enjoy video gaming online with no hassles.
